Hi, welcome to the official blog for Gooey Templates, Slice 'n Dice, and Out Loud Creative.

What is a website, really?

Thursday May 26, 2005

I’ve been thinking about this recently. A lot of people would say that a website is a collection of text and pictures. People look at these pictures and read the text, clicking from one page to the next. Okay, but why does a person visit that website in the first place?

It’s because we all have a problem. About this time you’re probably thinking huh-uh, not me. What I actually mean is that when someone visits a website, he or she is looking for a solution to a problem. That problem might be a lack of transportation (let’s shop for a car), unemployment (we’ll see who’s hiring), or any number of other problems. So, a good website is a solution to one or more of those problems we all have. That’s why a person visits your website. They’re looking to solve some problem they have.

Think about it. When you came here to the OLC website, you were probably looking to solve a problem. Maybe you wanted more information about who we are or the services we offer. Hopefully we’ve done a good job of solving your problem, or at least headed you in the right direction. Your website should be doing this for your visitors as well. If it’s not you could be losing out on potential business.

Hope you have a great holiday weekend!

By the way, if there’s anything our website isn’t doing that you think it should, let us know.
